Het Lange Woordenboek (The Long Dictionary) is a project about the language used in the Miljoenennota, the annual budgetplan of the Dutch government. It points out the absurdity of the words which are used to communicate the policy and plans. How is it possible that governmental documents contain words that are nowhere to be found in regular dictionaries? And why are all these words extremely long?
This project was part of the exhibition Budget Dreams, a collaboration between the KABK Graphic Design Department and the Dutch Ministry of Finance. The project was nominated for the Budget Dream Award, the prize for the best project within the show. The book contains the selection of the 100 most beautiful long words and their meaning, on alphabetic order.
